Il Mare (2000) – two years apart allows communication through letters

Description

Eun-joo leaves her home, called "Il Mare," and in a Christmas postcard from 1999, she addresses the new owner of the house, asking if he will respond to her letter. The 1997 owner, Sung-hyun, arrives at "Il Mare" and finds Eun-joo's postcard, thinking it is a prank. He leaves a letter explaining that it is 1997, not 1999, thus beginning their unusual communication through the mailbox. The plot reveals the time difference – Eun-joo and Sung-hyun live in different years, but their letters travel through the same mailbox. This unusual connection creates confusion and challenges as they communicate not only across distance but also through time, with their goals and expectations clashing against this time barrier that hinders direct communication. "Il Mare" is a romantic fantasy drama directed by Lee Hyun-seung, starring Gianna Jun as Kim Eun-joo and Lee Jung-jae as Han Sung-hyun. The film explores the limits of time and space as two people communicate through letters, despite being separated by two years. This unique theme of time intertwining gives the work a special atmosphere and nuances of the genre.
